Participatory Interactions in Care and Sleep Situations in Daycare Centres (PIPS)
The aim of the "PIPS" project is to strengthen the participation of infants and toddlers in childcare centres. To this end, interactions in care and sleep situations are being analysed throughout Germany in order to gain a comprehensive picture of current practice. Based on the data obtained, concepts are being developed to support educational professionals in promoting children's rights and democratic competences from the very beginning.

Although participation is becoming increasingly important in early childhood education, there is a lack of sound knowledge and concepts for its implementation in daycare centres ? especially in sensitive everyday situations such as sleep and personal hygiene.
This is where the "PIPS" project comes in: For the first time, a nationwide study is being conducted into how participation is organised in these situations. Interactions between professionals and children are being analysed with the help of videography and mobile eye tracking. The data collected provides valuable insights into perception and decision-making processes, which are crucial for participatory organisation.
A key component of the project is the targeted further development of professional action through innovative data collection and analysis methods. The data collected will be analysed both qualitatively and quantitatively in order to create a practice-oriented concept for promoting participation. In close cooperation with a practice partner, this concept is continuously tested, optimised and directly integrated into the day nursery's daily routine.
In addition to the scientific study, Open Educational Resources (OER) and video-based training modules will be created, which will enable the concept to be sustainably anchored in the training and further education of educational professionals.
"PIPS" combines research with innovative technology and opens up new perspectives for early childhood education. Using scientifically sound approaches, the project helps to strengthen the participation of infants and toddlers in a targeted manner and to develop sustainable best practice concepts.
